Louisiana Chiropractic and Wellness Center was founded in 2005. The core purpose of our Doctors and staff is that Youthful Health can be restored, severe injuries can repair, and all of us have the right to feel young, strong, and flexible again through the natural, safe methods of Chiropractic, Massage, Physical Rehabilitation, and nutritional support.
To help our patients get back their health again, our clinic offers: Chiropractic spinal care for the entire back and neck including shoulders, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles. Also available is Physical Rehabilitation to recover strength, flexibility, motion, and normal function. We have licensed Massage Therapists, and Acupuncturists on staff to assist with muscle tension, spasms, and to lower stress from injuries and our busy schedules.
Our clinic and our staff are very involved in the Calcasieu Parish community. We show our support for the Sheriff’s Department and the teachers and staff of the Calcasieu Parish School Board by providing appreciation days for those who teach and protect our community.
Our Doctors are specially trained to provide pain relief caused by pinched nerves, structural misalignments, headaches, and a number of other sources of pain that can be treated with natural, non-invasive methods. Contrary to popular belief the answer to pain is not a prescription. Yes, a prescription can provide a temporary fix to a permanent problem, but our staff can provide a permanent solution through Chiropractic, Massage Therapy, Physical Rehabilitation, and proper nutrition.

About Dr. Gary V. Mertz
Dr. Gary V. Mertz has been a practicing Doctor of Chiropractic for over 20 years. He studied Biological Sciences, Human Biophysics, and Spinal Biomechanics at San Jose State University in San Jose, California and received his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Sunnyvale, California. Dr. Gary received advanced certifications in the field of Chiropractic including: Electro-Diagnostics and Advanced Studies, and Certified Instructor of Spinal Mechanics and Human Biophysics.
Dr. Mertz has participated in: The American Biomechanical and Bioengineering Association, The International Chiropractic Association, The Vertebral Subluxation Research Institute, The World Chiropractic Association, and The American Chiropractic Association.
Dr. Mertz attributes his decision to become a Doctor of Chiropractic after his own crippling injury and recovery due to Chiropractic Spinal Care. When Dr. Gary was 16 years old, he was paralyzed by a football injury. Several bones in his back were broken. The injury caused pressure on his spinal cord due to misalignments known as vertebral subluxation. He was unable to walk or even sit straight up and had no control over his lower body. Doctors told his parents that back surgery was necessary to repair his spine, and that he would never play sports again.
His parents decided to get a second opinion from a Chiropractor. Within a few short weeks of gentle Chiropractic adjustments he was able to get up and walk again. Within 6 months of Chiropractic Rehabilitation he was able to play football and even participated in the California State Championship in springboard diving for his high school swim team. Since his amazing recovery, attributed to Chiropractic care, Dr. Gary and his family have sought to expand the public awareness of this natural approach to healthcare.
Dr. Gary Mertz has two brothers who also became Chiropractors due to sports injuries. Together the three of them have been very influential in the field of Chiropractic. Their inspiration for advancing the field developed into teaching to the profession of Chiropractic. The Mertz brothers have traveled the world teaching spinal adjusting techniques, postural correction, and Chiropractic technologies, philosophies, and sciences. They have taught these methods in Australia, Europe, Central America, and throughout the United States. As leaders in the profession, one of the brothers, Dr. CJ Mertz, is a past President of the International Chiropractic Association (ICA).
Dr. Gary Mertz is highly trained, with over 20 of experience in the treatment of severe trauma, and accident injury victims such as spinal 'Whiplash' from auto, motorcycle, and 18-wheel truck crashes. Dr. Gary has also worked with professional and Olympic athletes, including rodeo teams. He has helped these athletes recover from injuries and increase their performance output levels.
